The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Police MTTD are to dispatch a taskforce on the Kumasi-Accra highway to carry out mandatory checks on commercial buses and trucks.

The exercise, which is supported by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), is also to help check indiscipline on the roads which has led to several road crashes and deaths on that stretch.

This was disclosed by the Upper East Regional DVLA Manager, Muntawakil Abdulai, in an interview with GBC in Bolgatanga.

He said the exercise will help check for drivers’ qualifications, adherence to fire safety, worn out tires, overloading, roadworthiness among others.

Mr. Abdulai said though DVLA does not have the power to arrest, regulation 158 of LI 2180 empowered them to take the vehicle and the driver off the road when the need arises.
