The Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE, Josephine Nkrumah has said although the use of plastics is not peculiar to Ghana alone, the nation must adopt proper sanitation practices in addressing the menace.
Madam Nkrumah explained that the use and indiscriminate disposal of such materials is fast affecting society as they take numerous years to decompose.
Speaking at the NCCE’s flagship programme “Citizenship week” in the La-Dadekotopon Municipality, Madam Nkrumah mentioned that the young ones can be agents of change by reorienting mindsets and lifestyles towards the environment.
The La-Dadekotopon Municipal Director of the NCCE, Mrs. Gloria Kudo charged parents and the elderly in society to regard proper sanitation practices as their responsibility to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
Therefore, with support from the European Union and the La-Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, the NCCE is expected to visit about ten thousand schools across the country to enlighten the pupils on the need for a clean and healthy society.
