Hold duty bearers accountable -NCCE

The Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Madam Lucille Hewlett Annan, says Ghanaians must hold duty bearers accountable by asking questions pertaining to the quality of projects.

Madam Annan made the assertion when the Ada West District Office of the NCCE engaged residents of Matsɛkɔpe under the Social Auditing programme on the theme, “Citizens for Transparency and Accountability.”

She said the community must define and apportion roles and responsibilities to individuals and groups to perform in the implementation of community-initiated projects and actions to address identified pitfalls.

Madam Annan added that good governance involves participatory decision making.

She said a Committee put in place or selected focal persons are to peruse the implementation process and also provide feedback to the larger Community on progress made.

The Ada West District NCCE Director, Philemon Boni, stated that the Commission will support the Matsɛkɔpe community with ideas and necessary skills to make their projects successful.

She also urged a Committee inaugurated to examine the implementation of a teachers’ quarters and take every project in the community serious.

The Stool Father of Matsɛkɔpe, Numo Eben Adjovu, lauded the NCCE for the Social Auditing programme, which he said is an eye opener for the people.

He was hopeful that people with concerns on governance issues will know where to seek redress
