The Ghana Armed Forces,GAF, says its attention has been drawn to a story in a private newspaper which alleges that soldiers who have been deployed in Tamale for this year’s historic Independence Day Celebrations are being subjected to “inhumane treatment”.
In a statement, the GAF said the story which specifically mentioned that troops have no beds to sleep on and have been packed into tents like sardines, with no proper ventilation, is false.
Also the newspaper alleges that the food being served the troops is of poor quality and is being rationed to the displeasure of the soldiers.
Additionally, the news paper alleges that the soldiers are being denied their daily stipends, raising uneasy calm and despondency among the troops.
The Ghana Armed Forces stated that all the allegations being made by the newspaper are palpable falsehoods and do not represent the true state of affairs about troops deployed in Tamale.
It noted that soldiers sleeping in tents is nothing new and also normal all over the world.
The statement placed on record that government has made provision for the feeding of all troops deployed in Tamale and soldiers are being fed three times daily.
The Ghana Armed Forces therefore advised the said newspaper to desist from such negative publications that have the tendency to lower the morale of troops and to question the care the High Command of the Armed Forces has for its personnel.
