The National Labour Commission (NLC) has asked unionised workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG to end their sit-down strike.

The staff started a sit-down strike on Monday, April 26, over demands for the removal of the Managing Director of company, Kwame Agyeman Budu from office.

A statement signed by NLC Executive Secretary, Ofosu Asamoah, urged the workers to resume regular work and channel their grievances through the Commission for redress.

The Commission advised the joint National Junior and Senior Union to ensure that the proper processes in the resolution of worker’s grievances are followed at all times.

A few weeks ago, the joint Unions demanded the removal of Mr. Agyeman-Budu on grounds of unhealthy administrative and corporate governance practices. They claimed the Managing Director has been incompetent when it comes to revenue mobilization and he also breached some procurement procedures.

The Junior and Senior Staff Union also mentioned six substations contracts where the recommendations of the evaluation committee were ignored and the contracts awarded to other companies.

Sources at the company have indicated that though the leadership of the Unions is calling for the removal of the Managing Director some workers have also commended him for some reforms and interventions which have improved service delivery.
