The Public Services Workers Union, PSWU, of the TUC is worried about government’s inability to set a base pay and minimum wage for workers this year.
A statement issued after the National Executive Committee of PSWU meeting in Kumasi attributed this to the inability of the National Tripartite and public service joint negotiating committees to dialogue on the minimum wage and base pay for 2021 before this year’s National Budget Statement is presented to Parliament tomorrow.
The Union therefore resolved that the salary component of the National Budget statement be negotiated and concluded before tomorrow’s presentation.
Additionally, PSWU is demanding a determination of an enhanced base pay immediately relative to previous trends. It is optimistic that government as a major employer will expedite action on these matters before the presentation of the National Budget statement to maintain relative harmonious industrial atmosphere in the country.
