Civil Society Organisations, want government to show political will by punishing its officials who engage in illegal mining.

Speaking at the ongoing 2-day National Consultative Dialogue on Small Scale Mining in Accra, the CSOs say punishing such persons will serve as a deterrent to people who want to use such avenues to make money and cause damage to the countries’ water bodies.

However, President Akufo Addo at the Dialogue yesterday said he will not punish his appointees in the fight against illegal mining in the country based on hearsay.

He said he is determined to rather enforce the laws in illegal mining no matter the subject high or low.
