The Tatale-Sanguli District of the Northern Region was thrown into shock on Monday, June 1, 2026, following the death of a District Roads Engineer after a swarm of bees attacked workers engaged on a road improvement project under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
According to reports, the workers were carrying out road construction activities on the Tatale-Sanguli road when a swarm of bees suddenly emerged and attacked the team.
The workers fled the scene in an attempt to escape the attack. However, the District Roads Engineer was reportedly overwhelmed by the bees and collapsed after sustaining multiple stings, with the insects covering much of his body.
Personnel from the National Ambulance Service were subsequently called to the scene and rushed him to the Tatale Hospital for emergency treatment. Sadly, he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical staff.
The Tatale-Sanguli District DRIP Coordinator, Mr. Jonas Wajah, who confirmed the incident to the media, explained that the engineer was alone at the point where the bees attacked.
The Officer in Charge of the National Ambulance Service in the district also confirmed the incident, indicating that all efforts by health professionals to revive the victim proved unsuccessful.
The body has since been deposited at the Yendi Municipal Hospital mortuary pending further investigations and burial arrangements.
