The Ministry of the Interior has announced a revision of curfew hours imposed on Karaga Township and its surrounding communities in the Karaga District of the Northern Region to run from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am daily.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, the curfew, which used to run from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, has been adjusted to run from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am daily, effective Monday, April 20, 2026. The decision was taken by the Minister for the Interior on the advice of the National Security Council and formalized through an Executive Instrument.

The government explained that the review forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the area amid prevailing challenges. Authorities have therefore called on residents to remain calm and support peacebuilding initiatives.

“The government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and all people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” the statement said.

In addition to the curfew adjustment, a total ban remains in force on the possession of arms, ammunition, and any offensive weapons within Karaga Township and its environs. Security agencies warned that anyone found in breach of this directive will be arrested and prosecuted.

The statement was signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who reaffirmed government’s commitment to restoring and sustaining peace in the area.

The curfew continues to apply to Karaga Township and its surrounding communities in the Northern Region, as authorities monitor the security situation.
