Driver arrested for possession of 3,500 rounds of ammunition on Assin Fosu highway

The Central Regional Police Command, through an intelligence-led operation, has arrested a driver, Francis Ampomah, for possessing ammunition without lawful authority.

According to the police, on May 27, 2026, at about 12:30 a.m., personnel at the GreenField Plantation snap checkpoint received intelligence that a VOXY vehicle with registration number GT 9748-26, travelling from Accra towards Assin Fosu, was carrying concealed ammunition.

Acting on the information, the police intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search, during which they discovered 14 yellow and brown boxes containing shotgun cartridges and ammunition.

Police said the boxes contained a total of 3,500 rounds of ammunition, with each box holding 250 cartridges.

The vehicle has been impounded, while the suspect remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations.
