The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, is set to begin a six-day working tour of inland fishing communities across the country.
According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the tour, which starts on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, aims to gather firsthand information on the state of the country’s inland fisheries subsector, assess key facilities, and strengthen engagement with stakeholders.
The ministry indicated that insights gathered during the tour will help shape discussions at the upcoming Inland Fisheries Conference, as government seeks to improve facilities within the sector and strengthen policies to help grow the subsector.
As part of the itinerary, the minister will visit selected communities in the Greater Accra, Volta, Oti, Ashanti, Bono East and Savannah regions. During the visit, the minister is expected to interact with fisherfolk, inspect infrastructure, and participate in a strategic planning session in Techiman.
The initiative underscores the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that fisheries policies are informed by the real experiences and needs of inland fishing communities. Stakeholders and the general public have also been encouraged to actively participate in the engagement process.
