President John Dramani Mahama has announced that individuals cited in Auditor-General’s reports will now be prosecuted in newly established High Courts, as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and improve public financial management.

Speaking at the 2026 May Day celebration in Koforidua on Friday, May 1, 2026, President Mahama expressed his appreciation to the Chief Justice for the creation of such courts

“I want to thank the Chief Justice and the Judiciary for setting up the newly created additional High Courts’,’ he said.

He explained that the new courts will specifically handle cases involving persons indicted in the Auditor-General’s reports, complementing existing accountability measures such as the Auditor-General’s powers of disallowance and surcharge.

According to the President, the initiative is aimed at ensuring that public officials who misuse state funds are held accountable under the law.

President Mahama also commended the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and organised labour for maintaining industrial harmony, describing them as key partners in Ghana’s economic recovery.

He assured Ghanaian workers that as the economy improves, they will be among the first to benefit, stressing that growth must not remain at the top but reach the ordinary worker.

“We are resetting this nation for a quantum leap towards a future of shared prosperity,” he said.

The President concluded by paying tribute to workers across the country, describing them as the backbone of national development and urging continued cooperation to build a stronger Ghana.
