The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a 40-foot trailer carrying approximately five million tablets of Tapentadol (250mg) in a major anti-drug operation.

According to the Commission, the consignment was en route to the Niger Republic when it was seized through a carefully coordinated, intelligence-led exercise. Authorities describe the operation as one of the largest pharmaceutical drug interceptions in recent times.

Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the shipment and are currently in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. NACOC believes the suspects are part of a wider trafficking network involved in the cross-border movement of controlled substances.

Tapentadol, a powerful opioid used for pain management, is strictly regulated due to its high potential for abuse and dependency.

The Commission says it is intensifying surveillance and enforcement efforts to curb the trafficking of dangerous drugs, while also collaborating with international partners to trace the origin and intended distribution channels of the seized consignment.

Investigations are ongoing as NACOC works to dismantle the network behind the shipment.
