The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana have announced a series of planned and emergency maintenance works across four regions on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to upgrade critical power infrastructure and will result in temporary power outages in several communities in the Greater Accra, Central, Volta and Tema operational areas.
According to notices issued by the two power companies, the outages will begin at different times depending on the affected area, with the duration determined by the nature of the maintenance work. GRIDCo is also expected to undertake emergency maintenance at the Aflao Bulk Supply Point.
In the Accra East Region, a scheduled maintenance exercise will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting areas including Dzen Ayor, Ability, Haatso Trotro Station, Agbogba Junction, 37 and surrounding communities.
In the Accra West Region, another planned maintenance operation will also run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Communities expected to be affected include Broadcasting, New Bortianor, Adanseman, Cassava Farms, Mr Obeng, Oshieyie and nearby areas.
In the Tema Region, maintenance works scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. will affect communities such as Sackey, Bediako, High Tension, Golf City, Bright Star School, Jericho, Roman Down, Underbridge Market, the State School for the Deaf, Adjei Kojo, Kanawe, Community 22, Michel Camp and surrounding areas.
In the Central Region, a planned maintenance exercise will be carried out from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Areas expected to be affected include Apam Junction, Apam Township, Mumford, Gomoa Dago, Ankamu Junction, Gomoa Ajumako, Gomoa Akwakrom, Gomoa Nkran, Gomoa Obokrom, Gomoa Kumasi, Gomoa Enyame, Gomoa Dankyira, Gomoa Koforidua, Gomoa Dawurampong, Gomoa Nduam, Gomoa Wassa, Gomoa Esikuma, Gomoa Debiso, Gomoa Darman, Gomoa Abonko, Gomoa Lome, Gomoa Ogun and nearby communities.
In the Volta Region, GRIDCo will undertake emergency maintenance at the Aflao Bulk Supply Point from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Areas expected to be affected include Denu, Aflao, the Ave towns, Hedzranawo, Havedzi, Kedzi, Adina, Agavedzi, Keta, Afiadenyigba, Atiteti, Tsavanya, Anlo, Nakyikope, Abor, parts of Akatsi and Dzodze.
These planned maintenance activities come as ECG continues efforts to resolve multiple network faults recorded on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
In the Accra East Region, a fault on the Taifa Burkina feeder caused outages in areas including Taifa Police Station, Taifa Mr Agyei, Taifa Burkina, Taifa Oboohene and surrounding communities.
In the Tema Region, another network fault disrupted supply to Doryumu, Wildlife Gate, Eastern Quarries, Twin Quarries, Recycling, Inzag, Shai Hills Military Training Camp, Bright Cement, Mawujibe, City Escape, Miotso, Potters City, Prampram Township, Abia, Kpoi Ete and nearby areas.
In separate public notices, ECG and GRIDCo apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance works and the unexpected faults.
The two companies assured the public that engineers are working to restore stable electricity supply and stressed that the maintenance exercises are necessary to improve the long-term reliability of the national power network.
