The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, has called on young people in project communities across Ghana to take an active role in supervising ongoing road works by documenting activities on site and reporting directly to authorities.
According to him, residents in several communities, especially in the Savannah Region, have taken an active role in supervising ongoing road works by documenting activities on site and reporting directly to authorities.
Mr Agbodza explained that some of the information gathered by these young men and women from ongoing projects is being sent to both the Presidency and the Roads Ministry, making it difficult for contractors to present false progress reports.
“And I want to encourage all young people across the country to do the same with every road project that is in your community. Own it. Report to us. Don’t wait and say that the minister will know about it. Please let us know,” he said.
The Roads Minister made the call during a citizens’ engagement at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High School in the Savannah Region on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Mr Agbodza assured the public that the monitoring of road projects has been strengthened to ensure value for money and compliance with required standards, saying that no contractor working on any road project in the country, including those in the Savannah Region, would be tolerated for doing shoddy work.
“Contractors, I have news for you. Today, interestingly, in the Savannah Region, citizens have decided to take their mobile phones and record everything that you are doing on site.
“They have been sending it to President Mahama; they have been sending it to me. They even tell me how many people are on your site daily,” he said.
He also praised citizens for their vigilance and encouraged young people across the country to take a similar interest in public projects in their communities.
“I want to thank the public for this level of vigilance,” he said.
Mr Agbodza warned that contractors can no longer rely on manipulated reports or weak supervision to cover up poor work and cautioned road contractors across the country to ensure quality work or risk sanctions under the current administration.
He said President John Dramani Mahama’s administration will not accept shoddy construction on any road project funded with public resources.
