Ghana’s all time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan has been officially outdoored as ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and colts (youth) football, in a ceremony held at the Pelican Hotel in Accra on Wednesday evening. The Ghana Football Association has charged Gyan with using his iconic status to help promote and develop the game across all levels in the country.
Role and responsibilities
Gyan will lead promotional campaigns, fan engagements and corporate‑partnership initiatives aimed at rallying support for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
He will also represent the GFA at official functions and support the promotion of all Ghanaian national teams, as well as the growth of Colts and youth football.
Emotional ceremony and legacy
At the event, attended by top dignitaries, former Black Stars teammates and GFA president Kurt Okraku, an emotional Gyan watched a short documentary of his goals for the national team as the crowd cheered his contributions.
Gyan, Ghana’s all‑time leading scorer with 51 goals in 109 caps, represented the Black Stars at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups and scored the country’s first‑ever World Cup goal against the Czech Republic in 2006, a moment that still resonates strongly with fans today.
