Caleb Yirenkyi has been named FC Nordsjælland’s Player of the Year for the 2025–26 season, becoming the latest Ghanaian to win the club’s prestigious award.
The 20‑year‑old has grown into a key figure for the Danish Superliga side, playing in multiple roles, as a right full‑back, central midfielder, and centre‑back while contributing two goals and six assists in 29 league games, including a performance in the club’s 2–1 win over Viborg.
A fast‑rising Black Star
Yirenkyi’s versatility and consistent output have not only strengthened Nordsjælland’s squad but also boosted his profile with the Ghana national team.
He has already made senior appearances for the Black Stars and is widely tipped to be included in Ghana’s final 26‑man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Player of the Year honour follows in the footsteps of winger Ernest Nuamah, who won the same award after the 2022–23 season before moving to Olympique Lyon.
What the award means
The recognition underscores how vital Yirenkyi has become in the dressing room, helping the club bridge the gap between youth and senior expectations.
For the Ghana football ecosystem, it also highlights the productive pipeline through Nordsjælland, where several Black Stars players have refined their games before taking on bigger European stages. As the 2026 World Cup looms, Yirenkyi’s form and leadership at Nordsjælland will be closely watched by Carlos Queiroz and the Black Stars scouting setup.
