Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has held a strategic engagement with the NPP Minority Caucus in Parliament, at the Accra City Hotel, in Accra.
It was at the gathering that he formally informed the Caucus of his intention to contest the party’s National Chairmanship position when nominations for the coveted position are opened.
Addressing the Caucus, Mr. Boadu reflected on his over three decades of dedicated service to the Party, having risen through the ranks from the Polling Station level to the National leadership. He highlighted key milestones and achievements chalked throughout his political journey and shared a bold and practical vision aimed at repositioning the Party for victory in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on the future of the Party in Parliament, Mr. Boadu stressed the urgent need for strategic planning, disciplined organization, and experienced leadership.
“At this critical moment, we must be deliberate and focused on securing the 87 parliamentary seats we currently hold in our possession and ensure that none of them slips into the hands of our opponents. Beyond that, we must undertake serious profiling, proper constituency assessment, and strategic candidate selection in our orphan constituencies to reclaim the seats lost to the NDC.
To secure a parliamentary majority again, we need at least 60 additional seats from our opponents. This is not an exercise for experimentation. It requires tested leadership, deep institutional memory, and a Chairman who understands the dynamics of every constituency across the country because he has done it before,” he stated.
As part of his broader vision for repositioning the Party for electoral victory, Mr. Boadu revealed plans to propose to the National Council the establishment of an ad-hoc committee, which would eventually evolve into a permanent standing committee dedicated to strengthening the Party’s parliamentary fortunes nationwide.
According to him, the committee would be tasked with conducting continuous and intensive research across all constituencies in Ghana with the primary objective of ensuring that the NPP not only retains its existing parliamentary seats but also secures a sustainable majority in Parliament.
He explained that the committee would further be responsible for developing credible personality profiles and assessment frameworks to guide the Party in identifying and selecting strong parliamentary candidates capable of winning elections.
Mr. Boadu also disclosed that the proposed body would continuously mobilize resources and raise funds to support parliamentary candidates who emerge victorious from the Party’s primaries, drawing inspiration from the congressional campaign support systems practiced by major political parties in the United States.
He emphasized that the committee would comprise experienced political strategists, researchers, and seasoned party stalwarts whose expertise and institutional knowledge would significantly enhance the Party’s electoral preparedness and competitiveness. He added that individuals selected to contest on the ticket of the NPP must receive the necessary strategic and logistical support required to succeed in parliamentary elections.
Mr. Boadu further emphasized that unity remains the single most important ingredient needed for the rebuilding and strengthening of the Party ahead of future elections.
According to him, the NPP cannot afford divisions and internal fragmentation at this crucial stage of its political journey. He noted that his experience, relationships across all levels of the Party, and proven leadership credentials uniquely position him as the candidate capable of bringing all factions together under one common purpose.
“The destiny of our youth and the future of our Party cannot be gambled with. The NPP needs a Chairman with a proven track record of delivering victory. I have led this Party to electoral success before, and my record remains clear and undeniable,” he added.
Members of the NPP Minority Caucus in Parliament expressed appreciation for Mr. Boadu’s engagement, applauding his vast experience, strategic depth, and demonstrated ability to lead the Party through difficult electoral moments.
Mr. Boadu and his team extended their gratitude to the Honorable Members of Parliament for the warm reception, candid discussions, and commitment towards rebuilding a stronger and more united New Patriotic Party. NPP must win the 2028 Elections.
