The Netherlands Embassy in Accra has raised concern about Ghana losing funding for the second phase of the Lavender Hill decommissioning project two which is meant to treat faecal matter before being dislodged into the sea.
The first phase of the $82 million project although completed, has not been operational because of issues relating to water, electricity, fire certificate and supporting staff from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) who will charge tipping fees from waste trucks.
To make matters worse, the second phase involving the construction of a decomposite plant, sponsored by the Netherlands government has not even started although funds are ready at the Netherlands Embassy.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, the Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana, Ronald Strikker said Ghana has until the 26th October to complete processes to access the funds or lose it.
