Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, who was to appear before an Accra High Court Monday to justify why he should not be severely punished for contempt did not show up.

This, according to documents submitted to the court, was because the legislator was not personally notified of the date for his appearance. Mr. Agyapong’s appearance before the Court comes after the High Court (Land Divisions) attention was drawn to a Television Station (NET2 TV) and Radio (Oman Fm) programme allegedly aired on September 2, this year.

The MP who was on the show used unprintable words against the court and Judge. He is alleged to have said, he had a vendetta against Judges in the country who abuse their power in their line of duty.

Among other things, Mr. Agyapong had also allegedly threatened to “face the judge” who gave a verdict in a land dispute involving him.

He was subsequently asked to appear in court in an order signed by Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni, on September 9. But in the document explaining his failure to show up, the Bailiff indicated that attempts to serve Mr. Agyapong at his office at Net2 TV and Parliament proved unsuccessful.

The Bailiff noted that he spoke to Mr. Agyapong on phone, and was asked to send the document to Parliament. The Parliamentary Service is said to have responded to the documents sent by the bailiff that they have been unsuccessful at serving the MP.

The court Presided over by Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni directed that the documents should be pasted on the Court’s Notice Board and on the building of Net2 TV and Oman FM as a form of notification.

Mr. Agyepong, has been asked to reappear on Friday, September 18.
