Former Bantama Member of Parliament and former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has intensified his campaign to lead the Ashanti Regional branch of the opposition New Patriotic Party after formally declaring his bid for the regional chairmanship position.
Dr. Kokofu announced his intention to contest the position during engagements with constituency executives across the Adansi and Obuasi enclave.
As part of his campaign tour, he met executives from Obuasi West, Obuasi East, Akrofuom, New Edubiase, Adansi Asokwa and Fomena constituencies, where he called for unity, grassroots mobilisation and renewed political energy ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Addressing party executives, Dr. Kokofu praised their resilience and sacrifices, describing them as the “backbone of the NPP” for keeping the party active despite recent political challenges.
He commended their loyalty, dedication and commitment to sustaining the party’s structures at the grassroots level.

The former Bantama MP also used the occasion to rally support for the 2028 presidential ambition of Mahamudu Bawumia, urging party faithful to remain united and focused on victory in the next general election.
He called for peaceful and issue-based internal campaigns as the party prepares for its upcoming internal elections.
Dr. Kokofu further stated that he has the capacity to reposition the Ashanti Region as the electoral stronghold of the NPP, promising what he described as “strategic and tactical measures” to energise the party base and secure massive votes for both Dr. Bawumia and the party in 2028.
Highlighting his political journey from constituency chairman to Member of Parliament, he pointed to his experience in party organisation, communication, grassroots mobilisation and national politics as qualities that make him suitable for the position.

During the engagement, Dr. Kokofu also outlined strategies and guiding principles aimed at making both the NPP and Dr. Bawumia more appealing to voters in the Ashanti Region.
He assured party executives of his readiness to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, promote teamwork and maintain party unity ahead of the elections.
The constituency executives, in response, commended Dr. Kokofu for his long-standing contribution to the growth of the party.
They described him as a committed party member with strong grassroots appeal and advised him to pursue a unifying campaign that embraces all stakeholders while safeguarding peace and cohesion within the party ahead of the crucial 2028 elections.
