Malmö FF have completed the signing of Ghanaian winger Isaac Assibu from West African Football Academy SC (WAFA SC), adding a pacey and direct attacking option as the Swedish champions continue to reshape their squad.
The deal, finalized after several weeks of monitoring and negotiations, sees the highly rated winger make the step up from WAFA SC, a renowned football development academy, into one of Scandinavia’s most consistent top-flight clubs.
Assibu’s contract with Malmö FF is a permanent deal, with the club viewing him as a long-term investment rather than an immediate first-team regular.
The 18-year-old spent four years with WAFA SC, featuring in the Volta FA Division Two League and was registered for the ongoing Division One League season. Shortly after turning 18 last month, the transfer was completed.
He arrives in Sweden with a growing reputation as an explosive wide player, known for his pace, direct dribbling, and ability to consistently beat defenders in one-on-one situations.
His performances in Ghana’s domestic leagues and youth competitions are said to have attracted interest from several European clubs, with Malmö FF ultimately moving decisively to secure his signature.
WAFA SC describes him as “a winger who changes the tempo of games in seconds,” attesting to his ability to stretch defences and create space in transition, an attribute Malmö have prioritized in their recent recruitment cycles.
With this transfer, Assibu is likely to begin his journey with the club’s development squad or be gradually introduced through domestic cup fixtures before being considered for regular Allsvenskan action.
Assibu is understood to have embraced the move as a huge boost in his career.
The winger is reportedly aiming to use the platform in Sweden to gain European exposure and strengthen his chances of senior international recognition in the future.
For WAFA SC, the transfer represents another notable export, while for Malmö FF it is another calculated investment in emerging talent that could yield significant long-term returns.
Neither club has disclosed the financial details of the agreement.
