The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) received commendation from the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, during an official visit to his Accra office. The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the federation and the national sports authority, highlighting the progress made in developing rugby league in Ghana.
The purpose of the visit was to introduce RLFG’s leadership team, share updates on the federation’s recent achievements, and discuss future collaboration opportunities. Madam Juliana Storey, president of RLFG, expressed gratitude for the NSA’s ongoing support and outlined the federation’s efforts in grassroots programs, youth engagement, and international partnerships aimed at growing the sport across all levels of Ghanaian society.

“We are grateful for the warm reception from the National Sports Authority and the continued support of Mr. Ampofo Ankrah. Our mission is to grow rugby league from the grassroots up, and with the NSA’s partnership, we are confident in our ability to build a sustainable and inclusive sporting future for Ghana”; Juliana Storey.

A key part of the discussion involved clarifying the differences between Rugby League and Rugby Union, emphasizing that these are distinct sporting codes with separate rules, governance, and international bodies. This clarification was seen as vital to ensure that Rugby League receives the proper recognition and support it deserves as a standalone sport in Ghana.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah praised the federation for its professionalism and transparency, particularly noting RLFG’s diligent financial reporting and strategic branding efforts. He remarked that the federation’s operational model could serve as an example for other emerging sports organizations in Ghana, inspiring a more organized and sustainable approach to sports development nationwide.
“The Rugby League Federation Ghana has demonstrated commendable professionalism and vision. Their dedication to grassroots development, transparent operations, and strategic partnerships is exactly what we need in Ghana’s sports landscape. The NSA stands ready to support RLFG as a model for other emerging sports federations”; Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

Both parties expressed a shared commitment to deepen collaboration, with the NSA ready to support RLFG’s initiatives to promote rugby league across Ghana. The meeting also included key figures such as RLFG’s Technical Director, Mr. Marshall Nortey, and NSA’s Greater Accra Technical Director, Mr. James Odoi Wilson. It concluded with a mutual resolve to work together in building a vibrant future for rugby league in the country.
