Empower women to be part of development agenda – Women in Mining

The National President of Women in Mining, Ghana, Mrs Georgette Sakyi-Addo says for the country to achieve sustainable development, there is a need to empower and educate women to be part of the development agenda.

This, she said will help women to be part of the decision making process to ensure rapid development of the country.

She said this at the inauguration of the Perseus Mining Ghana Limited, PMGL branch of women in mining at Ayanfuri in the Central Region.

Women working in mining Companies came together three years ago to form a group called women in mining.

The group has branches in all the mining companies in the country. It was formed for the women in mining to have one voice, mentor the young ones to work in mining companies and also to take care of welfare issues of the members.

As part of its activities, members go to schools to encourage students especially the females to consider working in mining companies after their education.

The General Manager of GMGL, Stephen Kofi Ndede said for more women to enter into the mining industry, parents should encourage their girls to take up technological related disciplines in schools.

He urged the members to support each other to do well to encourage others.

The National President of Women in Mining, Mrs Georgette Sakyi-Addo said in Ghana women make up 51 percent of the population and therefore there is a need for them to be economically empowered to achieve growth and sustainability.
The Perseus Mining Ghana limited PMGL branch of women in mining has a nine member executive with Mrs Ophelia Koranteng as the President.
