Ghana joins to mark International Fire Day

Today is World Fire Day. The day is set aside to celebrate the dedication, loyalty, dexterity and sacrifices of fire fighters and rescuers.

A statement by the Chief Fire Officer, Edwin Blankson said the Service has over the past years performed creditably in its quest to ensure a fire free society

He commended fire fighters for giving off their maximum best to the country by way of the numerous fires prevented or extinguished, and the many lives and properties saved, giving meaning to the mandate and most importantly, the call for preserving lives and property from the ravages of fire and other life threatening situations. 

The statement cites the Makola Shopping mall basement fire, Michel Camp explosions and the recent Kumasi market fires and urged fire fighters in the country to spur on , remain steadfast and committed in the face of all the challenges.
