A recycling plant is to be built in the Techiman Municipality of the Bono East Region to help manage tons of waste generated in the Bono East Regional Capital.
According to the Techiman MCE, John Kofi Donyina, the Assembly has signed an MoU with a German Energy Company and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency to provide a lasting solution to the waste management challenge confronting the Municipality.
The project is also expected to provide jobs for the youth. Techiman, now the Bono East Regional Capital, prides itself as the leading market town in Ghana.
Its huge population coupled with brisk commercial activities comes with the generation of tons of waste.
Handling this waste is a challenge which has resulted in a number of huge rubbish dumps dotted around the town.
The Municipality is now turning to recycling to improve the waste management situation.
He also touched on ongoing projects in the municipality such as the construction of a teacher’s bungalow at Yeboah Asiamah and Kwarteng Ankomah SHSs, Chips compound at Faaman and six unit classroom blocks in four different locations in the Municipality.
Mr. Donyina said measures have been put in place to upgrade Techiman to befit the status of a regional capital.
