Business woman Diamond Appiah charged with fraudulent transaction of land contrary to Land Act

Business woman Diamond Appiah has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for fraud. She is alleged to have swindled another businesswoman Aisha Modi in the sale of land situated at East Legon Hills in Accra.

Diamond Appiah has been charged with fraudulent transaction of land contrary to the Land Act and admitted to bail in the sum of 300 thousand cedis with three sureties, two of which must be public servants.

Prosecuting, DSP Evans Kesse told the Court that the complainant needed a plot of land to buy and was discussing it with one Johnson.

The accused who overheard the conversation, jumped in and is alleged to have told the complainant that she had a plot of land at East Legon Hills which she could sell to her at a cheaper price.

The Prosecutor said the accused allegedly demanded and collected 30 thousand dollars cash from the complainant under the pretext of selling her the parcel of land.

The accused is reported to have taken the complainant to see the land.

DSP Kesse told the court that the complainant later went to the land and met one Gustav who claimed ownership of the said land.

In view of that the complainant allegedly made several attempts to retrieve her money from the accused person, but, failed.

She therefore lodged a complaint with the Police and the accused was arrested.

The prosecution said during investigation, it was established that the accused did not own any land at that location.

The accused allegedly admitted the offence in her caution statement.

The case was adjourned February 8, 2023.
