A Ghanaian couple has raised concerns over alleged unlawful encroachment on their land, despite multiple court injunctions reportedly ruling in their favour. Dr and Dr Mrs Lokko claim that individuals are disregarding legal rulings and trespassing on their legally acquired property.
The Lokkos, who say they have owned and developed the land at Dzornaman for over 20 years, allege that construction crews, allegedly backed by some senior police officers, are erecting multi-storey buildings on the property in defiance of court orders.
“We followed the law. We went to court. We did everything right,” Dr Lokko told reporters. “Now we watch helplessly as notorious land grabbers destroy everything we’ve built, right under the nose of the police.”
A private investigation commissioned by the couple has reportedly identified individuals behind the construction. Footage obtained by the investigators appears to show them actively coordinating work on-site, in violation of court injunctions.
More concerning is the reported presence of uniformed police officers seen accompanying the individuals, raising questions about possible collusion within the police service.
“They name-drop powerful people and dare us to act,” said a source close to the investigation. “They behave as if they are untouchable.”
Once a well-maintained space developed by the Lokkos, the land is now described as a construction site. Four large buildings have already been erected. The couple fears the properties could be sold to unsuspecting buyers, further complicating the legal battle.
Despite obtaining two separate injunctions, the Lokkos allege that enforcement by authorities has been weak or nonexistent. Repeated petitions to the police have reportedly gone unanswered.
In their most recent petition, the couple called for:
Immediate police intervention to seal off the property
Disciplinary action against officers allegedly aiding the trespassers
“All we ask is for the police to enforce a lawful order of the court,” the Lokkos stated. “This is not just about our land; it’s about the sanctity of the rule of law.”
As legal proceedings continue, the couple and some concerned citizens are urging authorities to act swiftly to uphold court rulings and prevent further encroachment.
