The Central East Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has arrested 13 drivers for the unauthorized use of sirens and emergency lights during a special enforcement operation along the Kasoa-Winneba Highway.

According to a post by the Ghana Police Service on X, the exercise was conducted on May 30, 2026, at Budumburam as part of ongoing efforts to enforce road traffic regulations and promote discipline among motorists.

The police disclosed that the drivers were found operating vehicles equipped with sirens and emergency lamps without the necessary authorization, in violation of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).

As part of the operation, officers from the MTTD Task Force educated the offenders on Regulations 65 and 74 of the Road Traffic Regulations, which govern the lawful use of sirens and emergency warning devices. The drivers were subsequently processed in accordance with the law.

The unauthorized sirens and emergency lights installed on the vehicles were removed, while the affected drivers were issued warning letters and cautioned against engaging in similar conduct in the future.

The Ghana Police Service noted that the enforcement exercise forms part of broader measures aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic laws and maintaining order on the country’s roads.

The Central East Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing road traffic regulations and enhancing road safety, urging motorists to adhere to the law and avoid the misuse of emergency equipment reserved for authorized vehicles.

The police have also warned that similar operations will continue across the region to curb traffic violations and promote responsible road use
