Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has emphasised the need for significant investment in Senior High School (SHS) infrastructure as a long-term solution to challenges associated with the Computerised School Placement System (CSSPS).
He said expanding educational facilities across the country is essential to easing pressure on the placement system and improving access to quality secondary education.
Speaking to candidates sitting the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Asawinso Senior High School on Monday, May 4, the Minister assured students of continued efforts to ensure a smooth transition into SHS.
He also urged candidates to remain calm, adding that a nationwide awareness campaign will be rolled out to help them make informed choices when selecting schools.
Mr Iddrisu further explained that addressing persistent placement challenges depends on the deliberate expansion of infrastructure in senior high schools.
“If we want to enhance the computerised placement system, we must invest more in education infrastructure: more classrooms, more dormitories, more laboratories, and improved provision of learning materials and their quality,” he said.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) successfully placed 483,800 students into secondary institutions across the country last year.
This represents 82% of the 590,309 students who qualified for placement, paving the way for the next phase of their academic journey.
