Burundi has announced seven days of mourning following news of the death of President Pierre Nkurunziza aged 55.
Mr Nkurunziza was due to step down from the presidency in August after 15 years in power.
The government says he died after suffering a cardiac arrest after being admitted to a hospital on Saturday.
Announcing a week of national morning, the late president’s senior adviser said he was “very much saddened” by his “untimely death”.
