The subsequent days were gloomy, filled with sadness, casting a dark cloud over the country. The sun seemed to hide away, and even the rain felt heavy, as if sharing the grief of the families and friends of those who had died. Confusion and sorrow filled the air, affecting everyone, from the President and government officials to families, citizens, and sympathisers around the world.
People’s faces showed deep sadness. Gone were the sounds of celebration, replaced by quiet music that echoed the pain of loss.
Drivers drove carefully, even on highways, following speed limits as if life itself had slowed down. Hawkers who once rushed through traffic moved slowly, with caution, reflecting the sombre mood surrounding everyone.
Flags were flown at half-mast, symbolising the nation’s grief. Many Ghanaians wore black clothes and red bands to show they were mourning. Official events were cancelled as a sign of respect for those who had died.
And, oh! The President of Ghana declared a three-day mourning period to honour the brave individuals who lost their lives serving the country.
News of their tragic deaths spread quickly, faster than wildfire — shocking not just Ghana or Africa, but the entire world. It left people shaken to their core and deeply unsettled.
Their demise was a powerful reminder of how fragile and fleeting life can be; a reminder that true leadership involves serving others, even in the face of unexpected danger.
Fare thee well to Ghana’s courageous servicemen:

- Dr Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, NDC
- Mr Samuel Aboagye – Former parliamentary candidate

Your sacrifice will always be remembered. We will never forget you.
May you rest in peace.
This is not just a story; it is a reminder of how fleeting life can be.
