The Chief of Akwapim Tutu, Nana Appiah Anti who is also the Atipimhene of Akuapem traditional area has appealed to government to help reconstruct their warn-out speed ramps to help reduce frequent pedestrian knockdown in the area. According to him, the number of people who were knock down from last year to this year is disturbing and pleaded with government to treat his request as urgent to help address the situation.
He made the appeal during his 40th anniversary launch of his enstoolment at Akwapim-Tutu in the Akwapim North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Tutu is part of the larger Akan polity, which belongs to the Benkum Division of the Akuapem Traditional Area. Akuapem, of which Tutu is part, like the larger Akan ethnic group, share the same language, Twi, and many similar cultural characteristics such as naming, puberty, marriage, burial and funeral rites and royal artefacts. Oral tradition posits that the original name of the community was ‘Tete’ but metamorphosed to the present name Tutu.
The town since its establishment has enstooled ten Chiefs with the current one, Nana Appiah Anti who is also the Atipimhene of Akuapem traditional area being the tenth Chief.
Forty years of his reign, he has spearheaded the development of human capital through education, health, amongst others. He has also help in the construction of their durbar ground, sanitation drive, youth development, and the establishment of TVET school which is currently hosting more than two hundred students.
Addressing the media during the launch, Nana Appiah Anti commended his elders and subjects for supporting him through his 40 years of reign. He noted that all the towns in the Akwapim ridge have a by-pass to ease traffic during activities except Tutu.
According to him, all efforts to get the authorities to construct their by-pass have yielded no result. He therefore requested the central government to come to their aid to help construct the by-pass. The 40th anniversary of the Chief which coincided with their Ohum festival runs through to November second with activities such as, football gala, clean up exercise, musical concert, black stool purification, amongst others.
