His Eminence Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson has called on the custodians of Ghana’s vast natural resources, especially high public office holders, to manage them responsibly.

“Here in Ghana, we live on a land with a lot of endowments and riches, about which we have prayed this morning and thank God for, and these must be managed judiciously. The wealth of this land and everything that exists here are for Ghanaians. So, they also must serve the common needs and purpose of all of us,” His Eminence Cardinal Turkson stated

He also admonished Ghanaians to prioritise the collective well-being of society over individual gain.

Cardinal Turkson, delivering a sermon at the maiden National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, instituted by President John Dramani Mahama, stressed that the pursuit of the common good must be anchored in regulation, equity, and shared responsibility.

“The pursuit of the common good requires regulation, which members of the community will have to abide by. Otherwise, the common good fails to serve the needs of the commons,” he said.

Cardinal Turkson underscored the blessings Ghana enjoys in terms of natural wealth and urged that these endowments serve all citizens equally and not a privileged few.

Cardinal Turkson warned against allowing personal interests and unchecked individualism to create widespread harm, saying: “This just means that it is a situation in which we will not or cannot allow individual interest and personal gains to cause negative externalities for all of us.”
