CHRAJ urges religious bodies to help fight corruption

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, CHRAJ, is urging Leaders of Religious and Faith-Based Organisations to encourage its members to speak up, resist and report corrupt practices to help fight the canker.

According to CHRAJ, corruption cases in the country is alarming hence the need for the clergy and Civil Society Organisations to intensify campaign by preaching and speaking against the canker. The Ashanti Regional Director of CHRAJ, Mrs Mercy Larbi expressed this sentiment at an International Anti- Corruption and Transparency Week Celebration in Kumasi.

The stakeholders’ forum which jointly organised by Ghana Integrity Initiative and Commission On Human Rights and Administrative Justice was under theme: Religious Leaders United Against Corruption and funded by DANIDA under its tax development programme.

Various speakers from CHRAJ, NCCE, and Ghana Integrity initiative took the participants through the negative impact of corruption and advised them to help in the fight to reduce corruption. Mrs Mercy Larbi urging leaders of Religious and faith-based organisations to encourage their members to speak up, resist and report corrupt practices to help fight the canker.

The Board Member of Ghana Integrity Initiative and a former President of Ghana Baptist Convention, Reverend Dr Kojo Osei- Wusuh urged the clergy to be convinced and committed to teach the devastating effects of corruption by speaking- out to their congregations.

The Zonal Project Office in Ashanti region of Ghana Integrity initiative, Osei Bonsu Aning explained the essence of the forum. The training was to share knowledge, build on the gains chalked and fall out.
