The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the commencement of the issuance of Ghana Cards to children between the ages of six and fourteen, starting Monday, October 6, 2025.

According to the Authority, the exercise will initially take place in 56 districts across the country, beginning with schools where the children were originally registered. The remaining districts will be covered in the coming days as part of a nationwide rollout.

In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs, Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, the NIA emphasized that all children who have already registered must be physically present to collect their cards. They are to be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians, who must also present the Form A or receipt issued on the day of registration. The first batch of districts spans all sixteen regions, including Accra Metro, Ashaiman, Sunyani West, Akuapem North, Bolga Municipal, Takoradi, Jirapa Municipal, and Keta, among others.

The Authority stated that it is fully prepared to deliver a “smooth and efficient exercise,” assuring the public that all backlogs of unprinted Ghana Cards have been cleared ahead of the commencement. “With all backlogs now cleared, the NIA assures the public of its readiness to deliver a seamless issuance process,” the statement read.

The Authority further indicated that details on the resumption of new registrations for Ghanaians within the same age group (6–14 years) will be announced in due course.

The Ghana Card has become the primary form of national identification, and this latest phase extends the national identification system to younger citizens, aligning with the government’s goal of achieving comprehensive data coverage across all age groups.
