The Government of Ghana has officially announced a three day national mourning programme to honour the eight individuals who lost their lives in the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday August 6, 2025 in Obuasi, Ashanti Region.

The commemorative events, aimed at paying tribute to the fallen public servants and military personnel, began today, Thursday, August 7, 2025, with a solemn laying of flowers and lighting of candles at Ghana’s Parliament. The atmosphere was deeply emotional as families, lawmakers, and members of the security services gathered to pay their respects.

The second day of mourning, Friday, August 8, will see another round of flower laying and candle lighting at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Presidency, beginning at 1:00 PM. This event is expected to be attended by key government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and the general public.

The programme will culminate on Saturday, August 9, with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” scheduled for 5:00 PM at the Forecourt of the State House. The final event will feature musical tributes,  and messages of remembrance in honour of the lives lost in service to the nation.

The government declared the three days of national mourning following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals on their way to a national assignment in Obuasi. The victims were senior government officials and military personnel who died in the line of duty.

Ghanaians are encouraged to participate in the events or observe personal moments of reflection in honour of the departed.
