The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has announced plans to train one million Ghanaian youth in digital skills and establish 50 digital hubs across the country as part of efforts to accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation and create a technology-driven workforce.
The initiative, known as the One Million Coders Programme, aims to equip participants with global industry certifications in emerging technology fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Data Forensics, and Cloud Computing. The programme is being implemented in partnership with global technology leaders including Cisco, Google, Huawei, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

During a meeting with a delegation from Cisco, led by Imoh Akpan, the company’s Business Development Manager for Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), commended the technology giant for its proposal to support the government’s vision through training and certification programmes.
He explained that the One Million Coders Programme is a central pillar of the Ministry’s broader digital inclusion agenda, designed to ensure that young people in every region and constituency have access to digital education and economic opportunities.
“We are establishing digital hubs in all 276 constituencies, with each hub equipped with about 50 computers and reliable internet connectivity,” Hon. George revealed. “This will give every young Ghanaian, regardless of where they live, the opportunity to gain world-class digital skills and participate meaningfully in the global tech economy.”
The Minister added that the government’s digital transformation strategy aims to make the “whole of government AI-enabled,” with an emphasis on innovation, inclusion, and equal access to technology.
He encouraged Cisco to submit a formal proposal and expression of interest to finalize the partnership, highlighting that collaboration with industry leaders is critical to achieving Ghana’s goal of becoming a regional hub for digital talent and innovation.
Also in attendance was the Deputy Minister, Hon. Adams Mohammed Sukparu, and officials. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a digitally literate, innovation-driven society, empowering Ghana’s youth to lead the next wave of Africa’s digital revolution.
