Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Francis Ato Cudjoe, says lack of political support is one of the challenges confronting the Fisheries Ministry.
He called on players in the industry to support the Ministry to fight bad fishing practices and over-exploitation of the fish resource.
Mr. Cudjoe said this at the Second National Conference on Fisheries and Coastal Environment in Accra.
The conference brought together players in the fishing industry and related sector actors to brainstorm on fisheries management.
Mr. Ato Cudjoe said most fishermen use dynamite, DDT and other hazardous chemicals with the aim of catching more.
This ends up destroying the fishes in the sea.
On Blue Economy, the Director of the Fisheries Economics Research Unit of the University of British Columbia, Professor Rashid Sumalia, noted that the economy encompasses a sustainable economy for the ocean-based marine environment hence ensuring their sustainable use and conservation.
