Ghana has taken a bold step toward clean mobility with the launch of its first Electric Vehicle (EV) Assembly Plant
The project, a partnership between SynonergyEV of Hong Kong and FDZ electric car assembly, was officially commissioned at a ceremony where the Deputy Chief of Staff, Stan Dogbe, performed the sword-cutting.
The event was attended by Dr. Appiah Dankwah Kufuor (PhD), CEO of SynonergyEV and FDZ Ghana Trading Limited, who reaffirmed the company’s commitment to positioning Ghana as a regional hub for electric mobility. Also present were the Director of State Protocol and Mr. Jason Hu, Director of SynonergyEV, alongside other dignitaries and industry leaders.
Backed by government support, the plant will assemble affordable EVs tailored for Africa, create jobs for Ghanaian youth, and build local expertise in sustainable transport. Plans also include rolling out EU-standard charging infrastructure, providing after-sales support, and exporting vehicles across the sub-region.
With more than 90% of Ghana’s vehicles still running on fuel engines, rising fuel costs, and rapid urbanization, the project represents a major turning point for greener, smarter, and more affordable transport.
Ghana is now firmly on the road to becoming Africa’s hub for electric vehicles.
