The Ghana Police Service has arrested twenty-seven (27) men for engaging in illegal mining activities at Ankaase Gyadam, near Asamang Tamfoe in the Eastern Region. The arrests were made on Friday, July 25, 2025, during a well-planned operation based on police intelligence.
According to the police, the suspects were caught red-handed mining illegally at several sites in the area. Some attempted to resist arrest with machetes and other weapons but were quickly overpowered.

During the operation, the police seized eleven (11) excavators, one (1) bulldozer, one (1) pump-action shotgun, three (3) saloon cars, one (1) Mitsubishi pickup truck, one (1) pick loader, as well as several water-pumping machines and other mining tools.
The arrested men are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. All seized items have been secured for further action.

The Ghana Police Service says it remains committed to cracking down on illegal mining and protecting the country’s natural resources.
