Former President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of his long-time friend and former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, saying may his soul rest in peace.
”May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace in the Bosom of the Almighty,” he said.
In a heartfelt message on Facebook on Monday, July 14, 2025, Nana Addo said he was deeply saddened to hear of Buhari’s death, which occurred on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London.
“I join many on the continent and across the world to mourn and celebrate the illustrious life of my good friend and former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.
Describing the late Buhari as a “redoubtable Nigerian patriot” and a true believer in African unity, Nana Addo recalled Buhari’s ties to Ghana from his younger years and his active role in major events of Nigeria’s early independence days, including the Nigerian Civil War.
He highlighted the strong relationship they shared as Presidents, pointing to their joint efforts such as the Accra Initiative, which aims to strengthen regional cooperation in fighting terrorism, violent extremism, and organized crime in West Africa.
“President Buhari also played a key role in supporting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), boosting the dream of deeper economic integration across the continent,” he added.
Nana Addo praised Buhari’s commitment to national unity, economic development, and the well-being of Nigerians.
“His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, will be remembered for his patriotism and deep concern for his people. May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace in the Bosom of the Almighty,” he said.
