One of Ayawaso East parliamentary primary candidate, Baba Jamal has defended his motive behind distributing television sets to delegates, saying it’s just a gift and not meant to influence their votes.
He questioned what’s wrong with gifting people, citing his history of giving gifts during Christmas and other occasions. Baba Jamal also mentioned setting aside 2.5 million Ghana cedis for loans, emphasizing that accepting a gift shouldn’t influence one’s vote.
“What is wrong if television sets are given to people? Is this the first time I’m gifting things to people?, he asked.
Those who know me know that every Christmas, I gift people. I have even put 2.5 million down to give to people as loans. It is not vote buying, If somebody gives you a gift, you can take it but allowing that gift to influence your vote is wrong”, he said.
The parliamentary primary happening today in Ayawaso East is to select a candidate for the by-election happening March 3, following the death of MP Mahama Naser Toure.
Other candidates in the running include Amina Adam, widow of the late MP, Mohammed Ramme, Yakubu Azindow, and Najib Mohammed.
