The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, has refuted the Police Service’s assertions that her tweet about the arrest of the #FixTheCountry movement convener, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, was an act of interference.

Speaking to Accra Based GHOne TV, the High Commissioner suggested that there was no chance her comments via Twitter could rile up Ghanaians and foment insecurity, as was suggested by the Police.

“So, it is clear from the reactions that it has not been received in the way it was intended. I wasn’t after a response from the IGP at all. when I comment on social media, I comment about all sorts of things in which I am interested. I suppose to show people a bit about me, to try to open up what it is to be a High Commissioner in a country like Ghana. What it is, not just to be a High Commissioner but also me as a person so I tweet about the places in Ghana that I’ve been and found beautiful or interesting, the people that I have met, and so on so I don’t necessarily look for any response” the British High Commissioner added.

She has however hinted of seeking backdoor diplomacy to settle the issue.
