A Nigerian aircraft and its crew, who were detained by Burkinabe authorities over allegations of violating Burkina Faso’s airspace, have been released.
The crew were received on Saturday, December 20, 2025, by President John Mahama’s Special Envoy for the Sahel, Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Larry Gbevlo Lartey.
A press statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Gbevlo Lartey welcomed the crew on behalf of President Mahama and commended both the Nigerian and Burkinabe governments for resolving the issue amicably through diplomatic engagement.
He described the development as a reflection of the strong fraternal ties within the West African subregion and an example of how disputes can be settled in a friendly and neighbourly manner.
The Nigerian crew will remain in Ghana to rest, carry out technical checks on the aircraft, and await clearance to proceed to Portugal, where the aircraft is scheduled for servicing.
