The case involving the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Sekondi-Takoradi, Abdul Mummin Issah who was arrested for an alleged motor traffic offence, verbal assault and offensive conduct against a Police Officer has been adjourned to March 22, 2022. This is to enable the Prosecution to file and serve the Lawyers of the accused with their disclosures.

At the Court sitting March 17, 2022, the Prosecutor, Emmanuel Basintele said their disclosures are ready, but we could not file on time and serve the Lawyers for the accused. He, therefore, pleaded with the Court to adjourn the case briefly to enable them to file and serve the accused with the disclosures. The Counsel for the accused, Samuel Agbota did not object but indicated that, the longer the case takes, the longer it affects the human rights of his client.

The suspended MCE was arrested on Thursday, February 3, 2022 for an alleged motor traffic offence, verbal assault and offensive conduct against a Police Officer performing his lawful duty. He was subsequently arraigned before the Takoradi Circuit Court ‘A’, presided over by his honour, Michael Ampadu.

He pleaded not guilty to charges and is currently on GHC 1,000 bail. Immediately after the Court decision, President Akufo-Addo, through the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, suspended the MCE from office.
