The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has suspended all fines imposed by its Compliance Team on drivers and vehicle owners nationwide, effective Wednesday, October 15, 2025, until further notice.
The decision follows weeks of rigorous road enforcement aimed at ensuring that all vehicles and drivers complied with the country’s transport and safety regulations. However, after receiving extensive public feedback and engaging in internal reviews, the Authority has opted to pause the exercise for broader stakeholder consultations.
In a statement released on October 14, the DVLA clarified that the suspension applies specifically to fines and charges enforced by the Compliance Team.
“This suspension relates specifically to the fees and charges that were being enforced by the Compliance Team. It does not suspend the legal requirements for drivers and vehicles to operate on Ghana’s roads,” the statement said.
The Authority emphasised that road safety remains a top national priority, but acknowledged the need for increased public education on compliance responsibilities and the consequences of violations before reintroducing any enforcement measures.
“The objective is not to punish but to ensure understanding and compliance. We want all drivers and vehicle owners to be aware of what is required of them before sanctions are applied,” the statement added.
The DVLA assured the public that the temporary suspension aims to create room for constructive dialogue between regulators, transport unions, and road users.
Meanwhile, the Authority urged all motorists to continue adhering to road traffic laws, maintain valid documentation, and ensure their vehicles meet roadworthiness standards during the suspension period.
The DVLA says the Compliance Team will resume operations after comprehensive stakeholder engagement to ensure a fair, transparent, and well-understood enforcement regime.
