Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has strengthened bilateral ties with Turkey in the fight against child labour during a high-level meeting at the ongoing International Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour in Morocco.

The bilateral engagement between Pelpuo and Turkey’s Minister of Labour focused on enhancing cooperation in policy exchange, capacity building, labour inspections and the promotion of decent work as a sustainable pathway to ending child labour.

Reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to international collaboration, Pelpuo stressed that eliminating child labour requires strong cross-border partnerships and coordinated global action. He highlighted poverty, limited access to quality education and the dominance of informal employment as key drivers of child labour, noting that comprehensive strategies are needed to address these root causes.

“Protecting vulnerable children and ensuring their access to education and social protection systems must remain a shared global priority,” the minister emphasised.

Both sides expressed readiness to deepen bilateral engagement and explore technical cooperation initiatives aimed at strengthening labour administration systems and safeguarding the rights and welfare of children in their respective countries.

The International Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour has brought together governments, employers’ and workers’ representatives, and development partners to accelerate efforts toward ending child labour in all its forms worldwide.
