Government is set to launch a Labour Market Information System, a digital platform designed to connect job seekers with available vacancies nationwide.

The system, announced by the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, will serve as a centralized online hub featuring job openings from both the public and private sectors.

Speaking on JoyNews, Dr. Pelpuo stated that jobs were around; however, the youth find it difficult to locate them. “My office has a multi-sectoral approach to creating jobs. The jobs are scattered all around, so mine is to make sure I monitor what is happening, draw the attention of young people to them, and create opportunities for them to have access to all the labour areas that are available,” he said on Monday, January 12.

He called on public and private organizations to put their information on the system for job seekers once it is launched. According to him, every opportunity in the government sector has been covered, and efforts are being made to ‘hook’ the private sector.

The Labour Market Information System aims to improve employment accessibility and labour market efficiency by providing a single platform for job seekers to explore and apply for available positions. The system will also enable employers to post job vacancies and access a pool of skilled workers.

Dr. Pelpuo added that the platform will help address the challenge of skills mismatch and labour market inefficiencies, which contribute to unemployment in Ghana. The system will provide valuable data on job vacancies, skills in demand, and training needs, facilitating informed decision-making for job seekers, employers, and policymakers.

He revealed that, though the system has not been launched yet, it has been tested by many users.

“We are yet to launch it this year, so it’s not so popular. But many people have tried it when we opened it up for trials. The whole of last year, we have been working on it. It’s been tested, and we are now getting ready to launch it officially.”
