The Minister for the Interior, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Muhammed Muntaka Mubarak, has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to take swift action against perpetrators of the Ablekuma North election chaos.
Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak has assured Ghanaians that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will not condone any act of vigilantism following the disturbances recorded during the Ablekuma North rerun.
Addressing journalists on Monday, 14 July 2025, during the Government Accountability Series organised by the Government Communications wing, the Interior Minister indicated that the IGP has been tasked to swiftly investigate the violent incidents at Ablekuma North and bring those responsible to book.
“All of us need to be mindful about the activities of vigilantism, and I can assure you that neither my party nor any group will sit by and allow the resurgence of vigilantism.
“I have spoken to the IGP firmly on all the happenings at Ablekuma North. The videos have been forwarded to him, and we’ve instructed him to swiftly bring the perpetrators to book,” Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak stated.
The Interior Minister further stressed that the government will not allow the perpetrators to go unpunished, expressing confidence in the IGP’s professionalism.
“We are not going to condone it, whether people within our party or the other party go around doing anything untoward. We can assure the public that under the leadership of President Mahama, no such group will be allowed to be formed.
“We are not going to allow this to go unpunished unless they flee the country. The law will have to take its course, and I trust in the professionalism of the IGP and his team that they are going to do a good job,” he added.
